baca02bThe 6th Annual CEPA conference was a total success. The long list of outstanding speakers is evidence that CEPA really stands for something and is truly visionary. Sheriff Lee Baca stood as a very striking figure in his sheriff's uniform. However, one wasn't looking at the stars on his collar or the revolver in its holster, but listening to Lee Baca, the humanist and the leader, speak. He concluded his short speech by warning us that in order to be a visionary leader one must be able to navigate the pitfalls of bureaucracy, and be open minded and compassionate. As he closed, he swept the room with his eyes methodically and confidently, leaving a lasting impression on us all…Lorena Anaya, Rosa Avila, Chris Holverson, Ruth Soto, Susan Stenzel.

rod02In Dr. Rodriguez's article, Redesigning Leadership: An Ethical and Innovative Approach to Empowerment, he states, "One of the most important principles embraced by CEPA is investing the time needed in developing new leadership. We must make a 'full-time' commitment to the intellectual development of our future leaders, and we as leaders must also concentrate on vision, risk, and Change." This increadible opportunity provided me with a new vision of leadership. It inspired me to do better and be a forward thinker. At the end of each conference day, I walked out of the conference room with my head held up a little higher. I called my mother and shared with her my excitement. I was excited to share my expereinces and visions with her. I told her that we needed more opportunities for people from difference sectors to come together. Training for administrators should be more personalized, accessible, and tangible. We need more opportunities to communicate and to connect. Our future depends on leaders, not mangers--Christine Lee .......

in02Innovating, empowering, visionary and inspiring are words that describe the 2002 CEPA Leadership Conference. From beginning to end it is none stop interaction with top officials, educational leaders and future leaders. Being a leader is not about power, it's about empowering others to be successful. The only way to get power, is to give it away. ..Elizabeth Irineo

Friday's evening program with Diane Creel, CEO of Earth Tech, was a real gem. Her theme of Management verses Leadership was honest, poignant, and visionalry It was a very moving moment to top off the evening's events...Susan Stenzel
